Killington out at least a month

It has been confirmed that star goaltender Buzz Killington will be sidelined for at least a month. He has torn some ligaments in his right knee, and could miss the entire season pending physical therapy.

Emergency goalie Brian Boytanio will not be called upon, unless a replacement can't be found. His poor performance and sad French Clown tactics in the season opener were not appreciate in the 11-5 slaughter.

So it looks like the Whalers will either go with Spot, or goalie by committee until Killington can make his return.

Whalers lose Season Opener 11-5

It wasn't a very pleasant season opener for the whalers on Tuesday Night against the Land Sharks. Spot the rookie goaltender from the OHL wasn't able to attend, so Brian Boytanio had to fill the goaltender position.

The Whalers were very disorganize in the first two periods, and spent more time chasing the puck around in their own defensive zone. At the end of the second period when the Whalers gave up 2 goals within the last minute, it deflated the club who was down 9-2 after 2 periods.

But the third period, the Whalers made some line adjustments and were playing much better. They managed more shots and scored three goals in the period to made it a justifiable lost of 11-5. After the game we caught up with the captain of the team the Chief Editor.

"We played a very sloppy game in the first two periods, and it showed. I'm satisfied with the third period effort and we have to play a full 45mins game with that composure. This is just the first game and we can build on this defeat and play a more intelligent game next week against Shop Rite."

The Whalers are holding another unofficial practice at Skate Zone tomorrow afternoon at 3pm to work on skating and trapping in the neutral zone.

Montel Displeased with Shorten Playing Time

On the eve of the Waterford Whaler's inaugural game, management has decided to increase the roster to 9skaters and a goalie. They have added interim goaltender Spot from the Western Ontario League. This means that Boytanio will be free of his obligation of filling the vacant goaltender position.

Management has made the following statement "After long and tiresome hours of scouting and evaluated in house talent. We've decided to add Spot to our roster and allocate Boytanio to play offense. Spot has perform well for his OHL team the Land Otters, and we think he can help the Whalers until Killington can return. This also means the offense will have an extra player, and we give us added depth up front with Boytanio. We're very excited about tomorrow's game against the Land Sharks and think we have a very competitive hockey team. "

With the addition of Boytanio to the offense it provides the Whalers with options of shuffling the lines. We caught up with Montel and ask him his thoughts about this announcement.

How do you feel about having an extra skater on offense?
"I'm not happy at all. This is going to effect my playing time and performance"

How is it going to effect your performance"
"I can't play well, if I'm not getting the amount of playing time I deserve. How am I going to score 40goals if I have to sit an extra shift. That is total bull- and I'm very upset with how management handle the situation."

Why are you angry with management?
"They didn't consult with the Assistant Captain and offense captain for one. Its a slap in the face that they don't trust my offensive skills of camping out in front of the net and producing for this organization. Second they haven't taken into account of my new found strength which has added 20mph to my wrist shot and 40mph to my slap shot. And finally didn't they see my resume from last season, I was a beast with 30goals in my first season as an indoor roller hockey player. I don't understand management."

How are you going to respond?
"I'm not predicting 60goals for the season. So its just going to motivate me to play harder and better with this BS shorten shifts. Did Wayne Gretzky have to sit an extra shift? I don't see why the Montel has to either.

Tomorrow's game against the Land Sharks is at 10pm, please arrive a half hour early and beat the traffic.

Killington a victim of his own Buzzkill

Star Goaltender Buzz Killington took a nasty spill last night at Firefighting Hockey. His right knee buckled and was carried off the ice. Early speculations are a torn ACL, and could cost him the entire season on the IR.

No official status of Killington's injury has been issued yet. The Daily Whaler will keep a close eye on this incident, and will keep an update on any other developments.

Right now it looks like Boytanio will have to hold down the fort in net until the Killington can make a full recovery.

Management has decided to sign Ed(Coldplay's older and more talented brother) on a loaner deal to play this Tuesday for the season opener. Both sides are still working on a contract extension for the entire season.

With the addition of Ed for this Tuesday, the roster has 2 solid defensive lines, with 2 supporting lines of offense. Management has made the following statement

"Ed is a great defensive player that can allow JD to move to one of the inadequate offensive lines. We are still very concern of the recent injury of Buzz Killington, but we think that Boytanio can provide us with outstanding goaltending. We've heard the concerns from Montel about his shorten shifts, but as of now we have 8 skaters and a goalie, so no playing time will be cut. "

With all of the pre-season drama, it looks like a very eventful season.

Boytanio Buzzkilled

Starting goaltender Buzz Killington will be scratch for the season opener start on Tuesday. He has a very important party to attend, and won't make Tuesday's game.

Brian Boytanio will replace the Killington in net, and now the roster has shrunk to 7 skaters and 1 goalie for the season opener.

Assistant Captain Montel has issued a press release

"The Whalers will play hard with the absence of Killington. I know that much has been made of adding another high quality player to the roster. But I assure everybody that the Whalers will splash on to victory. I've been working on my red line slap shot, and its going to be deadly to the opposing goaltender. Just get me the puck and I predict now 40goals for the season."

With the season only days away, the drama thickens for the Waterford Whalers

Second Unofficial Practice

Second Unofficial Practice was held today and it was a clinic on skating. Boytanio, Stilts, Montel, and Chief Editor were the only Whalers in attendance.

Assistant Captain Montel showed promise and poise in the offensive zone as he weave in and out of traffic. Montel is determine to reach his goal of 30 goals this season with a workload of playing time.

However Heroic Icon Master P on conference call from Las Vegas, had different views on the upcoming season for the Whalers.

"If Montel and Boytanio are on your number 1 offensive line, your are going to suck. I would recommend telling management to sign a skilled player and make Montel sit an extra shift. It is important that Montel gets enough rest so he can perform his early morning talk show. I'm ready for some Montel!"

Management hasn't yet commented on whether they are pursuing any free agents to fill the void of Scores A lot's offense.

Revised Schedule

So once again the SkateZone has decided to trouble our lives and make the 3rd schedule change in about a week. If you notice first game is on Tues 10/27 at 10pm.

I'll be around tomorrow, so if anyone wants to go to open hockey at 3pm, let me know.

Back-up goalie/mascot Gang Green might be able to play tomorrow, so we'll have 1goalie.

As for Mr. Buzz Killington maybe?

Shockwaves SAL not a Whaler

It is official that Scores A Lot has not renew his option and will not be playing for the Whalers this season. He has decided to play for another Men's League Team instead. When asked why? he made the following statement

"I have chosen to take another direction and play ice-hockey instead. It is in the best interest of my future and well being to concentrate on sport that has a larger following. Plus, I couldn't see myself playing on the same line with a guy who triple axles in the offensive zone. Its just not my thing. I'm sorry and wish the Waterford Whalers the best of luck."

The Chief Editor was too emotional to be reached for comment, and had offensive captain Montel answer reporters.

"I'm going to take the offensive workload on my back and score at least 30goals in Scores A Lot's honor, Now with Scores A lot gone, I will have the sufficient playing time I deserve and I will produce the majority of the goals."

How are you going to score that many goals?

"Well I'm glad you asked this question. See everyone knows I'm not the most nimble of skaters, or even a finesse type of player. But with more playing time, I have a greater chance of scoring. So its basic math, the more time you have to score goals, the more you'll score."

But even you admit that you don't have the greatest skills to accomplish this task, so how are you going fill the void in the Whalers offense?

"No need to worry, if you believe in yourself anything can happen."

So the Whalers kick off the season this Sunday against District 5 at 8pm, what kind of offense production is still in question.

First Unofficial Practice

The first unofficial practice of the Waterford Whalers was conducted on Thursday at 3pm. Highlights included a tutorial of how not to turn into an apple turnover machine, and defensive zone breakouts.

Boytanio was skating so intense that he made a innocent bystander puke his brains out. Good work Boytanio!

First Game is on Sun 10/25 at 6pm, I recommend everyone to try and get some rink time before the season starts. Skatezone has open roller every weekday from 3pm-430pm. I'm willing to go next Thurs if anyone is interested

Also I would like to make an announcement that Quad Skates is officially allowed to wear his medieval skating devices in the league. So we now have a defensemen who can shuffle and boogie to all of your favorite 70s hits.
